Message from Miss Misty

Misty-LownThe first week of 2017, I visited classes four nights in a row in addition to teaching my regular Ballet 7 class. It was so good to be back in the studio after break! I Iove chatting with students and families. It was also great to catch up with teachers and hear about student progress and plans for our Spring Recital. We invite our Graded Level students and their parents to meet with teachers on the dates listed below to talk progress and learn more about upcoming Skills Testing. I will be hosting my own conferences, Pathways in Dance: Career Conversations, in March! More details to come!

Message from Miss Shayna

Shayna Stellflue, instructor at Misty's Dance2017 is already off to a great start at MDU! Dancers and teachers have been so excited to be back in the classroom after our break! While it may not seem like Spring outside, our Spring Recital preparations are already well underway. Dancers and teachers are looking forward to beginning Recital Choreography in the coming weeks and learning more about our “Heroes” theme. Our February Newsletter will contain your show assignments and ticket information along with more Spring Recital details. Excitement for the New Year is in the air and it is going to be so much fun! Stay Tuned 🙂

Conferences for Graded Levels of Technique

Don’t Forget! MDU is holding Conferences for students in our Graded Levels of Technique (Levels 1 and up in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz Technique) on Saturday, January 21, 2017. Individual teacher availability was previously emailed to all Graded Level Students.

Conferences are an opportunity to talk one-on-one with teachers about your individual progress so far this year in preparation for Skills Testing next month! No appointment necessary! Both parents and dancers are encouraged to attend. Conferences usually last approximately 10 minutes per teacher.

Skills Testing will take place in Graded Level Classes the week of February 13-18. We hope that you will take advantage of this awesome opportunity to meet with your teacher(s) before that time!

Curtain Call Costumes Model Search

Curtain Call Costumes is conducting a search for dancers to be featured in it’s 2017-2018 costume catalog. MDU orders the majority of our Recital Costumes from Curtain Call each year!

Their first photo shoot is February 1 and will be followed by other shoots. If you are interested in applying, CLICK HERE TO APPLY. Curtain Call is searching for male and female dancers of diverse ethnicities, body shapes and abilities, ages 3 and up. Please note that not including a measurement size or having braces is a disqualifier. There is pay for the print media work but travel/lodging expenses are not covered.

If you choose to apply, please state clearly that you are a referral from Youth Protection Advocates in Dance or YPAD for short. (More Than Just Great Dancing is a Visionary Sponsor of YPAD so that is how we have been included in this opportunity.)

Curtain Call understands the applicants may not be working models and does not expect the YPAD referrals to be sending in professional model shots. Do your best with an iPhone if needed.

We hope to see some MDU dancers on the pages of the next Curtain Call catalog!
