Message from Miss Misty

You might know know from my visits to classrooms last month that our team is busy in the process of developing the theme for recital, selecting songs and costumes for each class and measuring all students for the upcoming spring production. What you may NOT know is that Misty’s Dance Unlimited is the first studio in the nation (actually the world) to have been certified by Youth Protection Advocates in Dance. This means that each of our teachers has been background checked and trained in the highest standards of developmentally appropriate practices for dance training, costuming and choreography concepts. So what does this mean for you as a dance parent? This means you can be confident that your child is a getting a world class and age appropriate experience from the classroom to the stage. When you see your teacher this week, give them a high five for going the distance with their dance education!

Message from Miss Shayna

As we enter the holiday season, we often reflect on memories, family, and all that we have to be thankful for in our lives. Last month I had the opportunity to take some extra time to pop into classes and observe students and teachers in action. This was a great reminder of how THANKFUL I am for each and every student, teacher, and family at MDU. It truly is a joy to be able to watch your children grow through dance year after year. From our pre-school students experiencing dance for the first time, to our high school seniors (many of which I had in class when they were that small) who have perfected their technique and performance skills, and every dancer in between, you are all part of our MDU FAMILY! Visiting classes and getting special hellos, smiles and hugs reminded me of all of the wonderful memories we have made in the past 20 years at MDU and has me even more excited for the next 20! This holiday season we are thankful for YOU!

-Miss Shayna Stellflue, School Director

Parent Participation Week

Parent Participation Week is almost here! Parents  are invited to join their dancer in classes November 13-18!

This is your chance to experience first-hand what your dancer is working on in class, get to know our teachers, and see just how much fun and learning happens in every class! If Mom or Dad is not able to attend, please feel free to invite another adult (Grandma, Grandpa, etc.) to your child’s class so the experience can be shared!

Our Kid Korner area will be staffed by student volunteers during Parent Participation Week so that siblings can be dropped off while parents are attending class! This is a time for dancers to make a special memory with a parent or family member. Please help us by choosing one family member per dancer to share this special time with.

Be sure to wear something comfortable to move in. Hope to see you there!

Christmas Cookie Social Participating Classes Announced!

Every year we finish our first semester of classes with a fun and informal Christmas program! Approximately half of our students participate each year as different classes from each age group of our Children’s Programming are invited to participate. In honor of our 20th Anniversary Season, we have updated the name of this event to The Christmas Cookie Social!  What better way to celebrate than with cookies after the show!

The Christmas Cookie Social is a ticketed event that will be held on Saturday, December 16 and will feature 3 Shows! We are thrilled to announce that this event will be held at the beautiful,  BRAND-NEW auditorium at Luther High School in Onalaska… just a few short blocks away from MDU!

Proceeds from this event benefit upper level dancers in the form of scholarship to Dance Revolution, a Christian-based youth dance convention!

Participation in the Christmas Cookie Social is encouraged, but not required! If your class is listed below and you are not able to participate, please let your teacher know by November 15 so he/she may plan accordingly. Participating classes will receive an additional email by November 15 with more details about this fun event including: Rehearsal, Costuming, Tickets, and More!

Our Spring Recital Costumes will once again be revealed ONLINE! Check out our MDU website (under the Studio News tab) beginning on November 15 to view photos of this year’s Spring Recital Costume selections.

Payment for your Spring Recital Costume(s) will automatically be taken out of the account you have on file on November 15. If you would like to know the total amount due for your costume(s) or if you would like to use a different method of payment or your costume fee(s), please stop by the desk before November 15 to place your order.

Please let the front desk know if you will not be performing in the Spring Recital, or if you are not performing with a specific class you are currently enrolled in by November 15 so this charge can be removed from your account before all final billing for costumes takes place. November 15 is also the last day to add classes or make other changes to your class schedule for this dance season, as Spring Recital Costumes will be ordered at this time. Spring Recital Costume payments are not refundable after November 15.

Ballet La Crosse’s A Little Princess Tickets Still Available

Don’t miss your chance to see Ballet La Crosse’s production of A Little Princess later this month! Tickets are still available through the Weber Center Box Office.

Showtimes are Saturday, November 25 at 2:00pm and 7:00pm and Sunday, November 26 at 2:00pm. Tickets for all shows are $22 for orchestra, $18 for balcony and $5 for children 18 and under. Hope to see you there!

Inclement Weather Policy Reminder

In the event of inclement weather, a message will be left on the studio answering machine by 2pm (9am for Tuesday morning classes, 8am for Saturday classes) regarding the status of classes. An email will also be sent to all families with classes that day and a notification alert will be posted on our MDU Families Team App.

Please note that we do not necessarily follow school closings as roads are often cleared or weather conditions have improved by the time studio classes begin. Additionally, it is possible that schools could be in session, but we may need to cancel studio classes due to winter weather developing later in the day.
