Message from Miss Misty
Welcome back, MDU families! The blur of the first weeks of class are over and the students and teachers are settling nicely in to their classes and curricula. Over the past two weeks I've had the opportunity to substitute teach in Tippy Toes. It's really amazing to see how fast the kids adapt and learn new things. I love watching them learn the art of dance! The arts have so many benefits for kids of all ages. Studies showing that children who participate in the arts have better academic outcomes, higher career goals and more civic engagement. Now that's More Than Just Great Dancing®! Parents, we thank you for being part of our studio family and we are looking to a great year! - Miss Misty Lown, Owner
Message from Miss Shayna
The end of our first month of classes is drawing near and students are getting excited to share all that they have been learning with you. During the last class of each month, parents are invited to observe the last 10 minutes of class. You are going to be so impressed with all that your children have learned in just a few short weeks! From our youngest dancers who are learning to follow directions and stay on their star to dancers who are trying new styles for the first time, building confidence, perfecting their technique or forming lasting bonds with their friends, there is an accomplishment for EVERY student in EVERY class! We are so proud of them and know that you will be too! - Miss Shayna Stellflue, School Director
- September 22-28: Last 10 Minutes Parent Observation
- September 27: MDU Closes Early for Oktoberfest Torchlight Parade
- September 29: NO CLASSES - Oktoberfest Maple Leaf Parade
Studio CommunicationsAt MDU, we go to great lengths to keep you informed and up to date. This is your first monthly E-newsletter of the dance season. Please be sure to read your monthly E-newsletters as they contain important reminders and updates throughout the season on classes, special programs, recital, and more!
In addition to our monthly E-newsletters and other email communications, MDU also posts reminders on our Facebook page and on the TV screen in our NEW "Communications Center" located directly behind the front desk.
Parent ObservationThe last 10 minutes of the last lesson of each month is open to observation. During our Christmas and Spring Parent Observation Week, you are invited to be our guests in the classroom for the entire lesson. Other observation is at the teacher's discretion. We ask that you observe quietly, that cell phones be turned off and that siblings are monitored and quiet during observations. Enjoy!
Absence ReportingIf your dancer will be absent from a class, our teachers and administrative staff greatly appreciate you notifying our team via our MDU Absence Form. This form can easily be accessed at the bottom of the main page of our website or CLICK HERE to access now.

NEW: Carpool AppWe have found a super easy carpool app that comes highly rated. GoKid Carpool App works on both iOS and Android, is available in the App Store and Google Play and is FREE. It allows you to choose who's in your carpool (no one else will even know it exists) and gives you the option to repeat a particular schedule. It also offers the flexibility for parents to message each other changes to the carpool, receive alerts and schedule reminders.
Once you Download the App:
Step 1: Complete Your GoKid Family Profile
- Open the app and tap on your name in the menu.
- Add each carpooling family member to your profile
- Include each person’s email (if available) so they can log in using a family password
- WHO: choose your kids and choose to invite families you know and trust
- WHAT: the name of your carpool (e.g. Tuesday Ballet 1)
- WHERE: your kids’ pick up / drop off location and the event location (invited families will add their kids’ location)
- WHEN: time and date of the carpool (for recurring carpools you can set repeat options)
Dance Achievement AwardsYou may have noticed something new and special at the Spring Recital in May. In celebration of 20 years of More Than Just Great Dancing™, Miss Misty presented each graduating senior with a Dance Achievement Award to help them in their next steps in life. That was not a one-time event but rather a new program that MDU offers each and every graduating senior dancer at the studio.
Scholarship award amounts begin building when dancers reach graded level classes and accumulate with each year they continue dancing at MDU. Dance Achievement Awards will be presented at the same show where the dancer performs their senior solo.
Miss Misty has always said we don't teach kids to make great dancers; we teach dancers to make great kids. Your kids are family to us, and this is one more way we can thank you for sharing their gifts and talents with us and to express our faith and belief in them as they go forward.
