Dear MDU Family,

I am writing today with a proactive communication regarding the potential state-wide mask mandate repeal going before the Legislature on Thursday.

Regardless of the outcome, our business will continue to support a mask requirement (unless you have an exception) until further notice.

While it is true that we have had a negligible occurrence of COVID-19 in our programs since re-opening in June (.00025%, or 5 reportable cases out of over 20,000 heads in classes, and none for two months) Coulee Region public schools are in the process of welcoming their students back which introduces a new risk variable to our student population. Even if the mask mandated is repealed on Thursday, it would be unwise to introduce a second risk variable to our student population at the same time.

As a teacher and a dancer, I look forward to the day when this is no longer a talking point, but in the meantime, we will continue all of the Safer Studio™ measures that have brought us such success so far including keeping people home when they don't feel well, well checks for employees, ongoing facility cleaning with our Sparkle Squad, hand sanitation, and face coverings. Our community is turning the corner and we need to stay the course until we get there <3.

As always, we will continue to monitor the situation as we keep our focus on supporting the whole health of our students—including physical, social-emotional and, mental well-being—through dance classes each week.

Thank you for your support!

In partnership,

Misty Lown

Coffee & Conversations

"Coffee & Conversations" is a free forum featuring expert speakers on some of the toughest issues facing parents today and providing a format for parents to ask some of their most vexing questions.

Misty’s Dance Unlimited and Mayo Clinic Health System created Coffee & Conversation in 2018 to help area parents with a range of kid- and parenting-related health topics. La Crosse Community Foundation, Coulee Parenting Connection and News 8 Now are supporting sponsors.

The session is open to the public and free to attend! There are two ways to participate this month.

Date: Saturday, January 16th

Time: 10-11am

Location: Zoom

Cost: FREE event!

Theme: “Positive Parenting Tips: Through the pandemic and beyond!”

Dance Revolution Virtual Event

Dance Revolution unfortunately had to cancel their in-person Chicago event, but they are providing a complete virtual experience instead!  MDU will be doing a few extra things for this event to make it fun such as an additional LATE NIGHT WORSHIP, Pizza Party, and MORE!!  The dates are still the same for the event (Jan 29-31), but it will now be hosted Virtual Only at MDU.

Next Steps for YOU

Email Miss Kylie (kylie.mistysdance@gmail.com) if you are interested in attending this event!  Details below. :)

Graded Level Conferences and Skills Testing

Mark your calendars!

Our annual Graded Level Conferences for students Level 1 and up in Ballet, Tap, and Jazz Technique will take place on Saturday, January 23rd.  Specific times and teacher availability will be sent out in a separate email in the near future!

Conferences are an opportunity to talk one-on-one with teachers about your dancer's individual progress so far this year in preparation for Skills Testing. Both parents and dancers are encouraged to attend.  Conferences usually last approximately 10 minutes per teacher.  Skills Testing will take place in Graded Level Classes the week of February 1 - 6

Student of the Month!

Congratulations to our first Students of the Month in 2021!  These dancers were nominated by their teachers for representing our Character Lives "Trait of the Month": POSITIVITY!

Miss Brennley Matz

Miss Nora Wise

Miss Kaelin Tomashek

Miss Hailey Constanti

Other Nominees Include: Addi Berry, Ella Flach, Lucy Lichtie, Marissa Hagen, Lillian Stewart, Ellie Helgeson, McKadee Brown, Lucian Hess, and Liberty Oliver -- Keep up the great work, dancers!

Inclement Weather Policy

In the event of inclement weather, an all-studio email will be sent and a Facebook post made by 2:00pm if classes are cancelled (by 8:00am for morning classes). Please note that we do not necessarily follow school closings as roads are often cleared by the time studio classes begin. Any cancelled classes may be made up on your own time from our regular schedule of classes, either in person or virtually!  We simply ask that you email or call Miss Kris prior to attending due to our limited class sizes. :)

New this year!  In the event that we do close the studio due to inclement weather, we will be offering bonus online content in place of any cancelled classes!  This content will be emailed out along with the cancellation notice.  Although not required, your dancer will not want to miss out on the fun!

Absence Reporting

If your dancer will be absent from a class (in-person or via Zoom), our teachers and administrative staff greatly appreciate you notifying our team via our MDU Absence Form. This form can easily be accessed at the bottom of the main page of our website or CLICK HERE to access now.
