Topic: “Raising Healthy Young Athletes”
An estimated two of every five kids visiting local emergency rooms arrive due to a sports injury, according to the National Safety Council. The reasons are many, and they’re often complicated by kids’ rapidly-growing bodies. To reduce that risk — and expense — for area families, Mayo Clinic Health System and Misty’s Dance Unlimited’s May Coffee & Conversation program will focus on methods to keep young athletes healthy and participating in their chosen sports.
Jacob Erickson, D.O., and Andrew Jagim, Ph.D., from Mayo Clinic Health System’s Sports Medicine Department will talk with families about how movement patterns, technique and proper eating habits can help keep their athletes injury-free. They’ll also discuss the importance of addressing small aches and pains early to reduce the risk of more severe injuries or chronic problems.
This event is FREE and OPEN to the public!
