Dear MDU Families,
Thank you for a great kick-off to our 24th season of “More Than Just Great Dancing!”. We are now a full week into our season and it has been amazing to see kids and families back in the building.
As the leader of our studio community, I have the great joy of seeing the excitement of the kids and teacher returning to class. I also have the great responsibility of navigating a continuously changing situation as it relates to Covid-19.
Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, MDU has provided clear communication and real-time decision-making. This has allowed us to offer continuous programming with only .0002% incidence of Covid-19 while providing consistent access to the benefits of dance such as physical fitness, social-emotional health, and mental wellness. That’s the joy part!
Now for the responsibility part. At MDU, we make all of our Covid-related decisions based on a variety of inputs, including local and national sources, as well as industry and studio data. I wake up every morning, search the data, and track the trends. I also consult with our county, speak with other community leaders, and pray for wisdom. I’m pleased to say that MDU is still doing extremely well in terms of cases as shared above. That’s why we began our fall season by continuing our summer policy of mask recommendation, not a requirement. Our community, however, is not doing as well. The cases reported yesterday morning were double what they were the week prior and the 7-day average is one we have not seen since February.
In my Welcome Letter from one week ago, I shared that we would escalate our policies if cases continue to rise. As such, beginning today (8/25/21), the following mitigation measures are being implemented:
We will continue monitoring the situation week by week and will make you aware of any changes. If community cases continue to rise, potential escalation of policies may include closing the lobby to reduce traffic, further limiting class sizes, greater physical distancing requirements in classes, and/or masking requirements for all ages.
In closing, I fully understand this message will cause relief for some and disappointment for others. Some will think it’s too much and others may think it’s not enough. This is the nature of the times we live in. But, it’s also in our nature to adapt and to support each other. Our kids are mirrors of our reactions and emotions, so let’s focus on what’s positive! In a time when our community is welcoming Afghan refugees who have lost all, we have much to be thankful for. Thank YOU for your support!
WELCOME TO SEASON 24!
Dear MDU Families,
Hello from the studio where we are in full preparation mode for the start of our 24th season of “More Than Just Great Dancing!” beginning on Wednesday, August 18! Thank you for taking the time to read the following updates to help make the kick-off of our season GREAT!
Welcome Students and Parents
We extend a hearty welcome to our new and returning students and parents. Some families are new to dance and some are just new to our studio. And, of course, some have been here for over a decade! Whether you are new or returning we say, “Welcome Home!” You have made the best choice possible to build life skills for your child. To get the most out of your year, be sure to join the “MDU Student & Parent Community” private group on Facebook. We also send a monthly newsletter and a variety of program-specific emails throughout the month. Please put our studio email on your “inbox good list” so you won’t miss anything. Nothing takes the fun out of great activities faster than not knowing what’s going on :).
Welcome New Faculty
MDU has an awesome faculty who work their hearts out every week to create safe and fun classes and a “third place” outside of school and home where kids can thrive.
Please join us in welcoming the following new teachers to our faculty:
We are pleased to announce our updated dress code which provides more style and body confident options for our Graded Technique students. A special thank you to Miss Kris for sourcing these new styles! All classwear needs can be found inside our Everything Dance Boutique. All dress code requirements can be found here.
MDU has always been a leader in safety including being the first studio in the world to become Youth Protection Advocates in Dance® certified in 2017. As part of being YPAD Certified, we conduct background checks on all team members and also provide training in CPR/First Aid/AED, injury prevention, social media safety, and abuse prevention as well as guidance on age-appropriate artistic choices for our teachers.
Additionally, I’m proud of how our team has worked tirelessly to deliver our Safer Studio™ plan over the last 17 months. Thanks to our team’s dedication, we experienced only a .0002% occurrence of Covid cases out of tens of thousands of visits. Vaccines are now widely available and on June 7 MDU transitioned from a policy of mask requirement to a policy of mask recommendation for staff and students. As we enter our school year, we continue with this policy, and our protocols of staying home if you are unwell, amplified studio cleaning, and tightly managed enrollment flows. Any Covid-positive staff members or students will be expected to stay home until they are out of the CDC recommended isolation window.
We understand these measures may be different from your local school district, but they are appropriate for our current situation, facility, and programs. We will continue monitoring conditions and will make you aware of any changes. A potential escalation of policies may include closing the lobby to reduce traffic, further limiting class sizes, greater physical distancing measures in classes and/or mask requirements.
Absence Reporting & Zoom
If you need to miss class for any reason, please let us know so we don’t worry. HERE is our quick online absence reporting form.
We have not been running Zoom in our classes since the beginning of summer, but if you have a special situation that requires an online accommodation, please let us know.
Parking & Doors
MDU has over 100 parking places and three doors for your convenience. Families and staff are welcome to use all entrances and exits. Please note that rear entrances are locked during lower traffic times for safety. If you encounter a locked rear door, please either use the front door or use the buzzer to request the door to be unlocked.
Food, Beverage & Garbage
At MDU we are proud to provide classes in a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility. Please help keep our studio looking beautiful by keeping all food in the kitchen area and having only clear drinks in the studios. Please also pick up any garbage from your visit before you leave so that the lobby is clean and inviting for the next family.
We are here to serve you! If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out. Our business office hours are 9am-5pm M-TH and we have a full team to serve you. Emails received after business hours will be replied to on the following business day. Please note that we allow (and encourage!) our teachers and team members to shut down email on the weekend in order to spend time with their families and recharge so that they can be awesome for your kids the following week. Please remember to direct all communication to our office and do not reach out directly to staff or team members via social media <3. Thank you for your support!
Thank you! We are looking forward to a great season!
Miss Misty & Team
