Awesome News… Back in the Spring of 2021, MDU participated in a research study examining the physical demands associated with different ballet maneuvers. We just got word that it's been accepted for publication in the dance world's most prestigious journal, the Journal of Dance Medicine & Science!

The objective of the study was to better understand the physical stresses of ballet, as this could lead to safer training practices for dancers. As part of the study, dancers performed different common ballet maneuvers while lower body shock was recorded using a small sensor placed on the low back. Investigators then categorized the maneuvers as low, moderate, or high impact.

MDU collaborated on the study with investigators from UW-La Crosse, Creighton University (Omaha, NE), and Baldwin Wallace University (Berea, OH). The paper will be published in an upcoming issue of the journal and we plan to continue to collaborate on future projects of this nature.

CONGRATULATIONS to the dancers who participated in this study:

Did you know that MDU has student lockers available in both our girls and boys locker rooms? Locker rentals are available for $75/dance year (August-May). Lockers are a great way for your dancer to keep all of their dance gear at the studio, have some quick snacks on hand for between classes and store their belongings during class. If you are interested in renting a locker, click here to review the guidelines and fill out the request form.

If your dancer will be absent from a class, our teachers and administrative staff greatly appreciate you notifying our team via our MDU Absence Form. This form can easily be accessed at the bottom of the main page of our website or CLICK HERE to access now.

Missing a dance shoe, water bottle, or perhaps a ballet skirt?  Be sure to check out our Lost & Found.  Simply ask the front desk for their assistance, and they will direct you to it.  All items remaining in the Lost & Found on the 15th of each month will be donated.

We LOVE supporting locally owned, family friendly businesses and are now partnering with several community friends to bring YOU exclusive offers - just for being part of our MDU Family. Check out our friends at PEG, H & H Karate and Reed Music Studios!
