CLASSROOM CHECK-INS

Our Studio Director, Miss Kylie, and other Senior Faculty Members, including Miss Tiffany, Miss Elisabeth, Miss Olivia and Miss Shayna, will be visiting classes this month to observe teachers and classrooms in action! Classroom Check-Ins focus on curriculum, observing class progress and sharing ideas with instructors from inside the classroom.

PARENT PARTICIPATION WEEK

Get Ready!! One of the most memorable weeks of the dance year is right around the corner. Parents, mark your calendars for Parent Participation Week: October 13-18. This is your chance to experience first-hand what your kids are working on in classes, get to know their teachers and see just how much fun and learning happens in every class!

If you're not able to attend, please feel free to invite another adult (grandma, grandpa, aunt, uncle or close family friend) to your child's class so the experience can be shared. Please help us by choosing just one parent/adult to share this special one-on-one time.

NEW MDU BUN KITS

Now that we are well into our season, dancers in our Building Level (2nd-3rd Grade) and Graded Levels of Technique (3rd Grade and Up) should have the hair supplies needed to put their hair in a bun for class each week. Our Front Desk Team has given out more “emergency hair supplies” than usual lately, so we have created NEW MDU Bun Kits to help dancers remember to keep these supplies in their dance bag for future weeks.

Any dancer that comes to the front desk needing hair supplies to put their hair in a bun will be given one of these new bun kits and your studio account will be charged $5. Bun Kits consist of hair elastics and bobby pins in a cute MDU zipper pouch for easy storage and reuse.

GUEST ARTIST: NAZEAR BROWN IS BACK!

We are excited to welcome Mr. Nazear Brown back to MDU for a short residency this October. Nazear, signed to Clear Talent Agency, was born and raised in New Bern, North Carolina. He was part of the inaugural class of the CLI Conservatory and was later one of only five dancers chosen to join the CLI Company under the direction of Teddy Forance. Since then, he has performed works by Mike Tyus, Micaela Taylor, Ethan Colangelo, and Spenser Theberge, and has taught at the CLI Conservatory as well.

Nazear will be subbing select classes during his stay (classes will be notified via email), and offering the following special opportunities for dancers to train, grow, and explore.

Dance for Camera Project (Ages 10+)

Tuition: $199
Rehearsals: October 4, 10, 11, 17, 18
Times TBD – availability form will be sent upon registration

This unique project gives dancers the opportunity to perform in a filmed contemporary jazz piece. Participants will learn choreography specifically designed for camera, rehearse in-studio, and receive a professionally edited video to keep and share. A great experience for dancers to grow as performers and connect with the camera in a new way. (This project will conflict with Ballet La Crosse).

Mark your calendar for Ballet La Crosse’s upcoming performances of CINDERELLA: October 25th & 26th at The Weber Center for the Performing Arts in La Crosse!

The power of love transcends all obstacles and boundaries as proven in this rags to riches story. A young girl desolated and mistreated by her stepfamily is assisted by a magical fairy godmother who makes the impossible possible. Come and experience a young girl’s dream of her prince unfolding to the luscious score of Sergei Prokofiev with original choreography by Kennet Oberly and Amanda Schams.

Tickets are available for purchase via The Weber Center Box Office

HALLOWEEN DRESS UP WEEK

Dancers are invited to wear their Halloween costume or a favorite past dance/recital costume to class October 27-30! Please be sure costumes still allow for plenty of movement and have no bare midriff. No masks or other accessories allowed.

NO CLASSES will be held on Friday, October 31st so that students may enjoy trick-or-treating with their family and friends for Halloween.

DANCERS AGAINST CANCER

MDU is proud to be partnering with Dancers Against Cancer (DAC) to become a 2025 Hope Studio. DAC’s mission is to create an alliance in the dance community that provides financial support and inspiration to dance educators, choreographers, dancers, and their families who have been impacted by cancer. When you support DAC, you help a dancer in our community, ensuring that the rhythm of hope and unity remains unbroken.

The Hope Studio program collaborates with dance studios across the country to foster community involvement and raise funds for families battling cancer. Your contributions ensure they receive essential financial assistance during difficult times—helping with medical expenses, travel, and other necessities—so they can focus entirely on the wellbeing and recovery of their loved ones.

The steadfast dedication of donors empowers DAC to stand by every dancer, choreographer, and educator, ensuring that cancer does not overshadow their love for dance and life, no matter their financial situation.

More details on this amazing initiative will be posted in the lobby soon. MDU has pledged to raise $5,000 for DAC by the end of 2025. Help us reach our goal: Donate Today!

NEW ABSENCE REPORTING

We’ve made it even easier to report and keep track of your absences! You can now report your dancer’s absence directly through your Studio Director portal.

Step-by-Step Instructions:

New Feature: View Your Child’s Attendance

You can now see your child’s attendance history online!

LOST & FOUND

If you are ever missing an item, be sure to check our Studio Lost & Found as it tends to fill up quickly! All items remaining in the Lost & Found on the 15th of each month will be donated.

PRO TIP: Be sure to label all of your dancer’s belongings with their name as everyone at the studio has the same or similar gear. Dancers should take all belongings into their classroom with them or store them in their locker rather than leaving them unattended in the lobby or dressing areas.
