Tap and jazz classes near La Crosse
Two ways to explore music through dance
Tap and jazz offer different ways for children to connect movement and music. Tap uses footwork to create rhythm, while jazz explores movement, coordination, and expression. Misty’s Dance Unlimited welcomes Onalaska and La Crosse area families who want to learn more about either style. Start with the current schedule to compare classes by age and experience.
Tap: listening as well as moving
A child interested in beats and patterns may enjoy learning tap. Ask our team which introductory class fits your child’s age, and check the dress code for shoe requirements before making a purchase. Returning students should share their previous training so the team can help identify an appropriate level.
Jazz: build coordination and expression
Jazz may appeal to dancers who enjoy learning combinations and performing movement to music. The best starting point depends on age and experience, rather than enthusiasm alone. Our team can help you compare the current class options and understand what is involved in joining a class.
Choosing between styles
You do not have to choose a long-term training path before making an inquiry. Tell us what your child enjoys, which days work, and whether they have danced before. Ask about a trial and confirm its location. Younger children may be better served by a preschool program; students with team goals can explore dance team training. For a different emphasis on rhythm, take a look at hip hop.
Foundations for young dancers
In the 2026–2027 guide, Ballet & Jazz Foundations introduces kindergarten and first-grade dancers to both styles, with attention to movement skills, listening, and musicality. Tap Foundations introduces the same age group to tap steps, rhythm, and tempo. Older or more experienced students can explore the graded tap and jazz listings in the schedule.
